  • Activated the network on the VPC (which was the server under installation)
  • Todo: Install TFS – This failed again
  • Todo: Install WSS Extensions for TFS (from the TFS CD)

Install TFS 2008 on a machine without WSS

I gave up trying to solve the TF220034 error. Then the way to get around it was to uninstall WSS.

Uninstall MOSS/WSS

  • Delete all web apps: From SP Central Administration – App mgmt –  Delete each Web Application –  Choose Delete content databases and Delete IIS Web sites
  • Stop all services called Windows Sharepoint Services
  • Uninstall WSS: From Control Panel – Add remove programs – select MOSS (Ms Office Sharepoint Server) or WSS (Ms Windows Sharepoint Services) – Remove
Notice: After the removal there were no IIS Web sites or App pools left in IIS.

Install TFS 2008 without WSS preinstalled

  • SQL server 2005 need Reporting Services. Install it, if it is missing
  • SQL server 2005 needs SP1 or newer. Install it
  • Install TFS 2008. Below Img shows the installed sites.

TFS Web sites

TFS uses SQL server and WSS services, but it also have one service itself:

TFS service
